About

Dr. Mahinka is an Associate Professor of [Ethno]Musicology. Her teaching emphasizes the musical structures and cultural contexts of music practices, building ways for all students to understand, articulate, and convey musical affect and experience. She unabashedly admits an ulterior motivation to change the world through our experiences of music. In 2018, she received the Distinguished Teaching Award at the Borough of Manhattan Community College, City University of New York for her outstanding dedication and inclusive teaching practices.
