Harford Community College offers a variety of courses that meet licensing requirements as per the Office of Child Care (OCC).  Multiple credentials are available, including the 90-hour certificate program which meets OCC requirements for lead teachers in the State of Maryland.

Maryland Child Care Apprenticeship

Harford Community College also offers an 18-month Child Care Apprenticeship program. It is an "earn while you learn" program designed to be completed while working full-time in licensed Maryland child care facility.

Required Courses

For the 90-hour child care preschool certificate:

  • The Young Child
  • Materials and Curriculum

For other certificates:

  • Infant and Toddler Curriculum
  • School-Age Child Care

What can I do when I complete this program?

Students completing this program may be employed as teachers, aides, or administrators in child care programs.
