Each honor society has its own set of requirements and benefits but all allow you to stand out as an exemplary student who goes beyond what is expected or asked, purely for the sake of becoming the best they can be. So challenge yourself. And take advantage of the opportunity to show prospective universities and employers all you have achieved.

NOTE: Honors Societies at Harford are individually run extracurricular organizations that often have a regional or national affiliation. The Honors Program at Harford is an academic program with requiring students to take advanced Honor courses each semester.

 

Honor Societies at Harford

Lambda Epsilon Chi

Harford Community College Chapter
​Lambda Epsilon Chi is an honor society for paralegal students and is sponsored by the American Association for Paralegal Education. To qualify for membership, a student must have completed at least two-thirds of the Paralegal program requirements, have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.25, and have a GPA of at least 3.50 in paralegal classes. Graduates who meet these requirements wear a purple stole with a gold border during Commencement.

Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society

Rho Beta Chapter
Region: Middle States
Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society recognizes and encourages scholarship among two-year college students. To qualify for membership, graduates must earn at least 12 credits at Harford Community College and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50. Graduates who meet these requirements wear gold stoles during Commencement.

Alpha Delta Nu Nursing Honor Society

Gamma Upsilon Chapter
Gamma Upsilon Nursing Honor Society promotes scholarship and academic excellence in the profession of nursing and recognizes the academic excellence of students in the pursuit of an associate degree in nursing. To qualify, graduates must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00, earn a B or better in each nursing course, and demonstrate conduct on the College campus and in the clinical setting that reflects integrity and professionalism. Graduates wear an apricot cord during Commencement.

Delta Alpha Pi International Honor Society

Delta Alpha Pi International Honor Society recognizes the academic accomplishments of students with disabilities. To qualify for membership, a student must have a documented disability, complete a minimum of 24 credits and earn a cumulative GPA of 3.10. Graduates who meet these requirements wear a blue and gold cord during Commencement.

Psi Beta National Honor Society in Psychology

Harford Community College Chapter
Psi Beta Honor Society encourages professional development and psychological literacy of students at a two-year college through promotion and recognition of excellence in scholarship, leadership, research, and community service. To qualify, graduates must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25, earn a B or better in a psychology course, and have  interest in psychology.

Mu Alpha Theta Honor Society

Mu Alpha Theta Honor Society recognizes and encourages students who enjoy and excel in mathematics. The society is dedicated to inspiring keen interest in mathematics, developing strong scholarship in the subject, and promoting the enjoyment of mathematics in high school and two-year college students. To qualify for membership, students must have at least one mathematics course at or above the College Algebra/Precalculus level with a 3.0 GPA overall in all two-year college mathematics courses at or above that level. Graduates who meet these requirements wear one blue and one gold cord during Commencement.

SALUTE National Veterans Honor Society

SALUTE is the first national academic honor society established for student veterans, and active military, in 2-year and 4-year institutions of higher education.

  • It was formed in 2009 by the Colorado State University Veterans Office thanks to a grant by the American Council of Education and the Walmart Foundation.
  • Each chapter symbolizes not only the collective achievement of veterans bettering themselves through the pursuit of knowledge, but also our commitment as a group to honor those among us that are the tip of the spear across the nation.
